I grew up in NJ and 20 years in CA haven’t cured me one bit.
I bought a 996 Carerra 4 that I’m turning into a track/autocross car. I just spoke to the owner of my neighborhood local; a dark dive-ish motorcycle bar, and said, “Hey why don’t you sponsor me? You’ll get photos of the car on the track for the bar, and I get new seats and tires.”
Shockingly he wasn’t opposed.
Now, while this isn’t exactly cash in hand, I am pretty sure it’ll turn into new seats OR tires and for that I’ll happily get a big vinyl black cat for my hood because even if I break even who the hell cares.
Lesson of this story: choose a neighborhood bar with a badass logo. Also, asking nicely with a dash of good timing never hurts.

New IMS, rear main seal, valve guides, valve seals, air/oil separator, pressure plate, clutch, brakes.... all done. All that’s left are camber plates and stickers for added HP. (And aero — which arrived today and goes on when the rain finally stops.)

I grew up in NJ but currently am stuck in Florida.
Apparently I’m crazy for loving the NJ attitude and way of life.

I’ve observed that anyone I meet from New Jersey who now lives outside of New Jersey generally is pretty awesome.
The people who grow up there and stay there? Generally a mixed bag and frequently not as interesting.
